IMAGE_BUTTON_BACK Mildont® 503A for 3" Drain Strainers
IMAGE_BUTTON_BACK Although it is possible for a Mildont® to be affixed over an open drain using a silicone adhesive or similar fixative, the Mildont 503A is not recommended for use in this configuration because the Mildont® is normally kept in place underneath a tub-floor drain strainer, above the lip of the drain.

Your open drain may have a metal crossbar running across its diameter at approximately 1 inch beneath the surface of the drain. The underside of a typical crossbar is shown here on a removed drain.

If your drain has this crossbar with a hole for a center bolt, you may be able to purchase an inexpensive 3-inch drain strainer from your local hardward store or at an online plumbing superstore.

Once converted to this type of drain strainer, you can install a Mildont® 503A underneath the drain strainer.
