FAQ >> Mold and Mildew FAQ
Why can't I detect the source of mildew odor in my bathroom?
Back As you smell a mildew odor in the bathroom air, you are drawing hundreds of spores into your nose and lungs.

Unless you are close to a midewy surface, you have found a pocket of airborne spores, but not the source of the spores.

Large concentrations of airborne mildew spores are rarely located near their source because they are carried away by currents of moving air.

Unlike the spores, the mildew continues to flourish, usually undiscovered, in areas with minimal ventilation.

So, although you may smell a mildew odor at one end of your bathroom where the spores are swirling in a pocket of moving air, the mildew itself may be thriving elsewhere.
